Expansive (Blue) Clay -
Found predominately in the Chinle Formation (with small amounts in the Moenkopi & Moenave).

Flooding -
Flooding hazards are most serious along the Fort Pierce Wash, Santa Clara, and Virgin Rivers.

Earthquake Hazards -
St. George has three major nearby faults. The Washington Fault produced a 5.9 quake in 1992.

High Wind Areas -
Strong wind gusts such as those in windstorms, mircro-bursts, and tornadoes have caused considerable damage in Utah.

Rock Falls, Mudflows & Mass Wasting -
These hazards are present on any steep slope, especially those along St George's basalt ridges.

Sink Holes & Soluable Soils -
Sink holes, "piping," and soluable gypsum veins are common in the Kaibab and Moenkopi Formations.
